DRAFT — pending legal review
Acceptable Use Policy
Version 2026-10-draft
This is placeholder text. It says how you may use Bastard Games; counsel will review the wording.
For everyone
- Do not use Bastard Games to break the law.
- Do not try to get around our age checks, region blocks or purchase rules.
- Do not probe, scan or attack the store, its API or the sandbox that runs web games, except through any security disclosure process we publish. [TBD by counsel: security contact]
- Do not scrape the store in a way that slows it down for others. We limit how often some actions can be repeated, for example: 60 downloads an hour from one connection and 200 downloads a day per account; 10 reports an hour from one connection; 10 command-line sign-in codes every 10 minutes from one connection; 30 new releases an hour per developer; 10 reviews posted or edited an hour per account. Over a limit, you are asked to slow down and try again later.
- Do not use someone else's account or payment method.
- Do not submit false reports. A knowingly false copyright notice can make you liable for damages.
For developers
- Publish only games you have the right to distribute, and only content that follows the Content Policy.
- Bastard Games is for games. Do not use it as general file hosting. We watch each game's downloads, and a game with more than 500 downloads in an hour, far above its usual rate, alerts our operators, who review it. Nothing is removed automatically because of it.
- You are responsible for everything published under your account, including by an AI agent acting for you through the command line or the API. Keep your API tokens private.
- Sign your Mac and Windows builds with your own certificates. We do not sign for you.
- Web games run on a separate sandbox domain. A game you haven't marked online can load files only from its own build: it can't load scripts, fonts or anything else from a CDN or another site, and can't fetch from, send forms to or embed other sites. Put everything it needs in the build, or mark it online. Do not collect personal data from players beyond what you disclose. Developers are independent controllers of the data their games collect. [TBD by counsel]
- Do not publish a remix of another game without declaring its parent. See the Remix License.
- Do not circumvent a removal by publishing the same content again. Files removed after a valid notice cannot be published again.
What we may do
If you break these rules we may remove content, suspend or terminate your account, stop payouts, and report illegal activity to the authorities. We tell developers what we did and why in a statement of reasons, and they can appeal. See the Content Policy.
